Class/Event: Nonprofit Essentials-Human Resources

Location: The Winston-Salem Foundation Building, 751 West Fourth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101-3rd floor Burress Family Center for Philanthropy, Neill Board Room
Description: Whether staff or volunteer, the most important asset of any organization is its people. This course will address key topics such as recruitment, retention, recognition, performance management and conflict resolution for both staff and volunteer management. The course will also review essential policies and discuss any recent legislation that could impact your workforce.

The Human Resources class will be taught by Abby Monclova. Abby has over 13 years of experience in management, recruiting, personnel relations, training, and relationship building. She is a graduate of Wake Forest University and received her MS in Human Resources from Western Carolina University. Previous roles include Director of Volunteer Services at the Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem, Inc.; Director of Staff and Volunteer Services at Outfitters4; Sr. Human Resources Consultant at Forsyth County; and Board Chair for Dress for Success Winston-Salem. Abby currently works at The Resource as Clerical Operations Manager and serves as Past President of the Winston-Salem Society for Human Resource Management. Most importantly, she believes an organization’s most valuable resource is its people, and how their collaboration can strengthen your organization, your mission, and our community

The Nonprofit Essentials classes are taught primarily by Wake Forest University staff, faculty, and alums. Participants who finish all classes will receive a Certificate of Completion from Wake Forest University.

All classes include a networking lunch from 12:00 to 12:40 pm. Instruction begins at 12:45 pm and will end around 4:30 pm.

The class will be held in The Winston-Salem Foundation building located at 751 West Fourth Street. Click here for a map to the building.

Please park in the overflow lot across from the building at the corner of 4th and Broad Streets. To gain access to the building, cross 4th Street and walk along the side of the building adjacent to Broad Street. There is a pedestrian access gate that faces the Broad Street sidewalk. Enter the passcode 7510 to unlock the gate and you’ll be able to access the back of the building where you'll find the main entrance to the elevators. Take the elevators to the 3rd floor and exit to the left. Go down the hall to the Burress Family Center for Philanthropy and the meeting room will be on your right in the Neill Board Room.
