Class/Event: Creating Respectful Workplaces in a #MeToo World
Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2018 - 11:30 AM
Location: *Webinar hosted by the NC Center for Nonprofits*
Description: HandsOn NWNC is pleased to partner with the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits to offer you this webinar. Survivors of sexual harassment and assault have pushed the envelope with the courageous #MeToo and #TimesUp campaigns. Bold truth-telling through social media and technology has changed how allegations get reported and how organizations must respond. In fact, the federal government issued a report in its own words to "reboot workplace harassment efforts." A lot has changed with public and enforcement agency expectations for what organizations should be doing. Join attorneys Kimberly Koranado and Taylor Dewberry of Smith Anderson Law Firm to learn how nonprofits can be proactive in creating respectful, safe workplaces including:
• The role of nonprofits' leadership in creating safer organizations
• Nine important emerging trends related to harassment
• Common mistakes in policy drafting and implementation
• What EEOC says your training program should look like.

Kim Korando leads Smith Anderson’s Employment, Labor and Human Resources practice group. She serves as general outside employment, labor and human resources counsel to public and private companies in a wide variety of industries including utilities, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, hospitals and healthcare, automotive, semiconductor, paper/cellulose and furniture manufacturers, insurance, banking, retail, hospitality, and food and beverage distribution, as well as municipalities and law firms.

Kim is a frequent speaker, trainer and writer on employment and human resources issues in the business and legal community. She regularly collaborates with companies developing in-house training programs, and has trained more than 20,000 supervisors, managers and Human Resources professionals in legally compliant employment practices, as well as investigators for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She served as Chapter Editor for the nation’s leading employment discrimination treatise, authored two leading North Carolina workplace guidebooks through the North Carolina Chamber, North Carolina Human Resources Manual and Model Policies and Forms for North Carolina Employers, and is a frequent speaker for nationally recognized organizations.

Taylor Dewberry joined Smith Anderson in 2017 as an associate in the Employment, Labor and Human Resources practice group. She earned a J.D. (cum laude) from Washington University School of Law and a B.A. (with honors) in American Studies with a minor in African-American Studies from Stanford University.

The webinar is from 11:30-1:00 pm.
