Board members play a critical role in the success of organizations. Strong, knowledgable boards help organizations gain credibility, build financial resources by providing access to the community, and serve as advocates and ambassadors of the organization. To help Forsyth, Davidson, Davie, Surry, and Yadkins County nonprofits increase the effectiveness and leadership capacity of their boards, HandsOn NWNC is offering basic board training for board members of current or emerging nonprofits, boards experiencing difficulties in their effectiveness, and individuals considerieng joining a nonprofit board for the first time. The training will include a discussion of the roles and responsibilities of board members, a review of 501(c)(3) laws and regulations, the purpose and content of By Laws, board governance, board/staff relationships, board policies, Roberts Rules of Order, executive committee structure and responsibilities, attributes of quality boards, key benchmarks of effective boards, and other topics of interest as identified by workshop participants.
The workshop will be led by Karl Yena, a consultant and active community leader who has served on numerous boards and has extensive experience with board training and development.
Seating is limited, so register now! This is a 2 and 1/2 hour workshop. Fees include a snack and extensive handouts. The cost is $30/person. Supporting Partners receive a discount and pay $20/person.
