HandsOn Northwest North Carolina together with Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, Salem College, Hispanic League, Big Brothers Big Sisters Services, One Economy's AmeriCorps VISTA program, and SISTAS community service organization are coming together to organize a care package drive for the troops. Various organizations across Forsyth County will be hosts to collection bins beginning on August 27, 2010 through September 11, 2010. A variety of community events will be taking place on Saturday September 11th such as our Memorial Service from 8:30-9:00am, or the Bookmarks Festival downtown and we encourage you to drop off donations for troops that day as well. Thank you banners and letters to troops will also be part of our service work at these events on September 11th and we invite you to take part in those activities when you drop off troop donations. Additionally, we will be managing service projects at local elementary schools and will have a sorting party at Forest Park Elementary School on Monday September 13, 2010.
The donations will be transported to the Give2TheTroops North Carolina branch office in Greenville on September 14th (www.Give2TheTroops.Org). Monetary donations to cover shipping costs are also welcomed and we will post a list of collection sites that are accepting monetary donations in the coming weeks.
