We Make it Easy to Make a Difference

The Mission of HandsOn Northwest North Carolina

HandsOn Northwest North Carolina mobilizes people and organizations that inspire community change. We connect nonprofits with the resources needed to develop capacity, and we connect volunteers with nonprofits needing services. We work closely with the 400+ different nonprofits in our network, and we touch the lives of thousands of volunteers each year. While we have a central focus in Winston-Salem/ Forsyth County, our core services are available to organizations and citizens in the surrounding communities of Davidson, Davie, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin Counties. FEATURED VOLUNTEER

Jeanne Butler

Jeanne Butler has been involved with The Enrichment Center in many capacities since moving to the Winston-Salem area in 1993. She first became familiar with the Center and its mission during her tenure at the newly formed Kenan Institute for the Arts at UNCSA, where she worked to create additional arts programming in the community, including a partnership that led to the creation of the Enrichment Center Percussion Ensemble, a professional music group comprised of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Jeanne has also served as a board member and has always been a strong advocate for the talents of individuals with disabilities. While her professional roles prevented her from being directly involved in fundraising, she has helped guide the Center’s development efforts for over fifteen years, and was instrumental in doubling the income generated from the Center’s annual Mardi Gras Gala fundraiser.

When asked why she continues to stay involved with the Center and the individuals served by its many programs, she says it’s the pride she sees in the students when they sell a piece of artwork or when they perform on stage for hundreds of individuals. “The Enrichment Center is a very special place and a population so worthy of our time,” she says, “and they are so appreciative.”

FEATURED ORGANIZATION

The Montessori School of Winston-Salem

Learning by doing,..progressing at a pace that’s right for each student…collaborating with peers and teachers to master concepts and skills…cultivating the ability to resolve conflict peacefully and harmoniously. These are the hallmarks of a Montessori education, and these are the qualities that will prepare children to be successful in the 21st century.

In our local Montessori school, all students are actively engaged in the joy of discovery and satisfy their curiosity through hands-on experiences. Children understand not only the ‘what’ but also the ‘why’ of what they are learning, which expands and deepens their understanding of the world in which we live. All this dynamic learning occurs within a respectful and nurturing setting on a beautiful 8-acre campus, nestled in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood. With over 40 years serving families in the greater Winston-Salem area, they are committed to providing an extraordinary education for children ages 18mos-6th grade and for creating a village of support for the entire family. Check out their website and FB page and sign up to tour our school. They’d love to host you and have you experience the Montessori difference!
