Youth Engagement Coalition

In 2020, HandsOn NWNC partnered with Wake Forest University’s Office of Community and Civic Engagement and Forsyth County Young Leaders Programto create the Youth Engagement Coalition (YEC), whose goal is to increase youth services by promoting opportunities, supporting nonprofits interested in engaging youth in service, and creating and incentivizing youth service during National Days of Service, among other strategies.  The Coalition hosted a Town Hall and training sessions in August to promote the value of youth to bring volunteer service and encourage partnerships which engage younger volunteers, including the opportunity to receive a mini-grant for youth-led projects and a chance to win project supply funds in support of a 9/11 Day of Service Project.

How can you be a part of the Youth Engagement Coalition?

Organizational members and youth leaders are invited to meet quarterly with YEC to help plan and implement the various activities and initiatives.  These members will be convened on a seasonal/quarterly bases, working to develop the programming calendar and help guide the overall direction of the YEC.  The 2021/2022 quarterly meeting schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, August 10th, 4 pm
Tuesday, February 8th, 4 pm

Activity planning groups will be composed of representatives from the appropriate funded partners, organizational partners, youth leaders, and other community volunteers.  They will convene as needed to plan and evaluate the individual activities and events of the YEC.  For example, National Days of Service, the MLK Day of Service Read-In event, 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance, and Global Youth Service Day may each have their own individual planning group.  It is anticipated that volunteers for these groups will be identified at each quarterly meeting of the wider YED membership.

Nonprofit and Community Groups are encouraged to create and share youth volunteer opportunities on GetConnected.  For assistance with Get Connected or how to create youth opportunities, contact Casey Capstick.
